Annual conference of the network for peace and conflict research in Austria.
The Russian war of aggression against Ukraine also poses challenges for peace and conflict research. At the same time, the need for peace-scientific debates and approaches emerges clearly. While a narrowing of the discourse can often be observed in media reporting, which is reflected in the media, political and social polarization of the debates on the Russian war of aggression, feminist, critical of power and other approaches can contribute to differentiating the debates and broadening the perspective. The Russian war of aggression also has significant global effects, especially on food security in countries of the Global South, which are already facing enormous challenges due to the climate crisis. Against the background of the current multiple crises, we would like to discuss at the NeFKÖ conference 2023 which impulses Austrian peace and conflict research can provide for a peace policy and invite you to submit contributions. Possible topics can include: Austria's neutrality, the strengthening of right-wing tendencies and parties and the development of their programs, the role of universities/F&K in wars and conflicts, or the connection between the climate crisis and peace.
The contributions will take place on Saturday, May 6, from 9:30 to 11:00 am as part of 90-minute walks in and around Schlaining, which will also offer sufficient space for exchange and discussion. If participants are unable to take part in a walk due to restricted mobility, we will of course offer an alternative format.
