Thirring’s plan – “More security without weapons” – was a contribution to easing the Cold War
War. Neutral Austria was to act as a “test object for the possibility of peaceful coexistence” and initiate a global disarmament process.
This idea is once again highly relevant today. In view of global war zones, the logic of preparing for “war readiness” is becoming increasingly dominant.
The authors of this book counter this and explain how disarmament can be brought back into play as a peace option, how Austrian neutrality can be defended and how the logic of war can be broken.
