100 years after the end of the First World War, this book addresses the importance of cross-border tourism in the Alps-Adriatic region for a culture of peace. Three "peace trails" are examined: the Dolomite Friends Trail on the Kleiner Pal in Carinthia, the Pot miru in the Soča Valley (Slovenia) and the Sentiero di Pace near Fogliano Redipuglia in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The trails, built along former war trails from the First World War, are intended to encourage a discussion about war and peace.
This first comparative study on the “Paths to Peace” is a result of the research project Tourism and Peace at the Center for Peace Research and Peace Education at the Alpen-Adria University Klagenfurt in cooperation with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
