“Beyond Babylon” means the willingness to accept the differences of others and an open approach to the multilingualism that actually exists. However, our nationally oriented school system still produces a permanently limited perspective and a narrow-minded world view. The absolute claim of one's own culture is already set by the dominance of “mother tongue teaching”. But how can a “culture of multilingualism in German teaching” be developed?
